The first thing you must understand is that the work can be long and boring. Initially, you will probably enjoy playing the game, but that is the fun may stop after playing the game for a tenth time. Gaming companies may ask you to go through a game in a week. Although this seems very easy, going through the game several times to test each character and analyze each weapon can be very time consuming.
In addition to this, each map must be tested thoroughly. This is then followed by a detailed report with all errors and technical problems listed. The reason for this is that if the developer made a mistake in a line of script, you must find it. This error is your responsibility to find and report!
The short deadlines may result in long working hours for you. Video game companies are under pressure and this pressure is then passed on to you. However, there are positives! If you like video games and enjoy playing the latest games, this is the line of work for you. Expect to get the better games (think Call of Duty), that is, the ones from the big developers, after you have experience though!
